What is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus?
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, also called Lupus is a disease where the body considers tissues as foreign bodies by mistake and attack them.
The symptoms are different for people with different ages. Some of the causes for this disease are hormones in the body and several other factors like mental trauma, physical or emotional stress and other medicines. It mainly affects different parts of body like kidneys, skin, brain, heart and lungs.
The symptoms of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus are painful and swollen joints, hair loss, Fever, Fatigue, Anaemia, red rashes in skin and dryness of body.
Lupus doesn’t have permanent cure but the recent treatments are focusing on reducing and controlling the symptoms of the disease. Immunosuppressives, steroid, NSAIDs, Biologic therapy etc. are some of the medicines that help to control the disease.
Avoiding sun and having well-balanced diet with healthy lifestyle help to reduce the severity of Lupus. Some of the other precautions are using lotions to protect against ultraviolet rays.
