What is Osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis occurs when bones rub together and the cartilage at the end of the bones wears off. The other popular names of Osteoarthritis are degenerative arthritis or wear and tear arthritis.
It is regularly found in the aged people but can occur in adults with any age. The most commonly affected joints are knees, spine, hips, hands and feet.
Some of the symptoms of Osteoarthritis are Bone Spurs, grating sensation at the joint, deformation of joints, injuries in ligaments and pain and stiffness in joints.
The treatment includes medicines like NSAIDs, analgesics and supplements related to joint. Dietary modification for weight reduction may be required. Physical therapy, Acupuncture and body stretching will help to reduce pain and improve the functioning of the joints.
Surgeries that are performed in case of damaged joints are Joint replacement and Arthroscopy. Exercising and applying ice packs in affected areas will relieve joint pains and other stiffness.
