What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?
Ankylosing Spondylitis is one type of arthritis affecting the spine and large joints in the body. The inflammation is observed in the joints of spine and pelvis. The disease is common mainly in men and observed during the start of adulthood (observed in 0.1% to 0.5% of adult population).
Diagnosis in the early stages of the disease helps to reduce pain and might prevent significant deformity.
The symptoms of Ankylosing Spondylitis are overgrowth of bones, pain in ligaments and tendons, redness of eyes and stiffness in lower back, buttocks, and hips.
Ankylosing Spondylitis cannot be cured but treating the physical condition of the body helps to improve body. Medications like NSAIDs, anti-rheumatic and biologic drugs helps to reduce pain and stiffness.
The physical exercises and therapy help to reduce and prevent pain and stiffness in the back. Aerobics for several minutes and physical exercising of body helps to maintain the body postures.
